Throwing the Ultimate Lawn Game Tournament

Throwing the Ultimate Lawn Game TournamentIf you are looking to plan a unique event for your friends or family, throwing the ultimate lawn game tournament is definitely the way to go. Some friendly competition and team work brings people closer and will give each other a lifetime of memories – along with some bragging rights for those lucky winners. What makes planning a lawn game tournament awesome is that you can set it up at nearly any fun event or gathering. Whether it is a family reunion, family time during the holidays or just a fun day activity, lawn games can be played on any type of surface almost anywhere. All you need is a large space with a flat surface.

So how does one plan a memorable lawn game tournament? Well, the very first thing you need to do is get the word out and pick teams. Let people know in advance that you are putting this fun tournament together. This gives everyone ample time to not only get matching team shirts and pick out their awesome team names but to get as much trash talking in.

Next you need to plan the logistics. Setting up a bracket challenge is the easiest and most fun way to get the tournament organized. You will also need to provide a place that has a fairly open space so that you can easily play lawn games with a large group of people without worry about getting into each other’s way. A big backyard or park is the perfect place! Next you must decide on the actually lawn game or games that will be played. You can just choose on lawn game and everyone can continue playing that game until a winner is declared or you can do an interesting twist. Each round a different lawn game is introduced. You can start out with Spikeball first round, horse shoes the second round, bag toss for the third round, bocce ball for the fourth round and for the last round you can have Rollors as the championship game the last two teams standing can compete in to win it all.

A great idea is to have a prize at the end that each team can win. This can be as simples as a DIY trophy that you made yourself. Here is a great site that shows how you can make your own trophy. Having a prize at the end helps people get a bit more competitive and it is always nice to win something.

Make sure you take lots of pictures and don’t forget to have some delicious treats that teams can snack on and “refuel.” Having a lawn tournament is an awesome idea because all ages and skill levels can participate. It is a great way to get out and be physically active while still being able to carry a conversation and socialize. It helps people make new friends and bond through learning new games and friendly competition.

  • One lawn game that not a lot of people talk about is Irish Ring Toss. While it’s not technically considered a “lawn” game, it can be played outdoors by nailing or screwing it to a tree or the inside of a shed door. It can also be hung inside as well for play. This game is very similar to darts, except without the sharp objects being thrown, and involves throwing rings (large o-rings) onto metal hooks, which each have their own point values.
